6-Step Overview

Import Process Overview.

From port arrival to post-import documentation. Six steps. Every requirement at every stage.

01

Port Arrival & IGM Filing

The vessel arrives at the Indian port. The shipping agent files the Import General Manifest (IGM) with customs. BillionBird provides the Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, and Packing List required for IGM validation.

02

Customs Filing — Bill of Entry

Your licensed customs broker files the Bill of Entry electronically via ICEGATE. Accurate HS code, CIF value, and commodity description are critical at this stage. The BillionBird Commercial Invoice provides all required values.

03

Duty Assessment

Customs assesses BCD, IGST, and Social Welfare Surcharge on the CIF value. The SGS/Intertek COA supports the declared value and quality parameters.

04

Physical Examination (if triggered)

Customs may select a shipment for physical examination on a risk-assessment basis. The BillionBird Phytosanitary Certificate and SGS/Intertek COA significantly reduce the probability of examination and support rapid clearance.

05

FSSAI Clearance

FSSAI inspection is mandatory for all food imports. The importer must be registered in FSSAI's Food Import Clearance System (FICS). FSSAI clearance typically takes 3–7 business days after customs duty payment.

06

Clearance, Release & Post-Import Documentation

Once customs duty is paid and FSSAI clearance obtained, the Out of Charge Order is issued and the container is released. Maintain all import documents for GST input credit claims, FSSAI record requirements, and future audits.
